Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas has introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
His announcement, made Wednesday, comes just weeks into Trump’s second term, setting the stage for yet another historic political battle.
Green’s decision to file for impeachment wasn’t made in a vacuum.
His action follows Trump’s controversial remark about the U.S. “taking over” Gaza during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The comment ignited a firestorm of criticism, with Green leading the charge.
This isn’t the first time Green has tried to remove Trump from office. During Trump’s first term, he introduced multiple impeachment resolutions, all of which failed.
But this time, he insists, the stakes are even higher.
Green’s Powerful Statement on the House Floor
Standing before Congress, Green didn’t hold back. He called Trump’s words a “dastardly deed” and warned that they signaled something far more dangerous.
“Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the President of the United States, the most powerful person in the world,” Green declared.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America.”
His words were clear: Trump’s rhetoric wasn’t just reckless—it was dangerous.
Despite Green’s passionate plea, top Democrats aren’t jumping on board.
House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) made it clear that impeachment isn’t a priority for party leadership right now.
Instead, they appear focused on legislative battles and the upcoming elections.
This reluctance isn’t new. In Trump’s first term, many Democrats hesitated before supporting impeachment efforts, waiting for broader political momentum.
Green, however, isn’t waiting for permission—he’s taking action.
Trump’s Impeachment History
If history is any indication, Green’s impeachment resolution faces an uphill battle. Trump has already survived two impeachment trials:
- 2019: Accused of abusing power and obstructing Congress over his Ukraine dealings.
- 2021: Impeached for inciting the January 6 Capitol riot.
Both times, the Senate acquitted him. Now, in his second term, Trump faces yet another attempt to remove him from office.
Green knows his resolution may not succeed. But he’s betting on public pressure to keep the issue alive.
He described this impeachment effort as a “grass-up movement, not a top-down” initiative, urging citizens to demand accountability.
While Trump’s allies dismiss the move as political theater, Green insists it’s about justice.
With Trump back in power and Democrats deeply divided, this impeachment battle could be just the beginning of a turbulent second term.
